ADAPTIVE REUSE OF MILL BUILDING

Adaptive Reuse and Addition to Mill Building; Boston, MA

Vanecko, Ltd. was the architect for the adaptive reuse of a 14,400 s.f. mill building in Charlestown. The existing ca. 1910 heavy-timber and brick masonry structure was converted into a woodwork shop, office and studio spaces.

1. •Phase 1 work included new egress components, HVAC & fire protection systems, wood shop, offices and artist studios build-out.
   

2. •Phase 2 work included an accessible entry, elevator, and wood framed addition.
   

3. •Design included coordination of consultants for geo-technical and structural engineering for new timber piling foundation.
   

4. •Provided comprehensive State Building Code Article 34, and City of Boston Zoning Code reviews.
