SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Vanecko, Ltd. is committed to sustainable design and energy efficiency, and employs HERS and LEED accredited professionals.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Vanecko, Ltd. designs Energy Star qualified residential additions and new construction. To earn the Energy Star rating, a home must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and be tested to achieve a specified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index rating. These homes are designed to be at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 Residential Energy Code, and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes. Any home three stories or less can earn the Energy Star label if it has been verified to meet the EPA's guidelines.
Net zero-energy building: A net-zero energy building is a design principal where all the energy required for a building’s operation is provided for on-site, and has zero carbon emissions annually.
Typical sustainable residential design strategies include:
•Passive solar heating and shading
•Overhang depth
•Thermal mass for energy storage
•Type and thickness of insulation
•Natural ventilation
•Window and door types and placement
•U-Values of fenestration
•Building orientation
•Types of lighting and bulbs
•Efficiency of systems (HVAC, Lighting)
•Heat recovery ventilators (HRV)
•Solar thermal and/or Photo voltaic panels
•Ground or water source heat pump
